Easy French Toast Roll-Ups (Printable Version)

Soft bread roll-ups filled with sweet cream cheese or jam, coated in cinnamon sugar for a golden finish.

# What You'll Need:

→ Bread & Fillings

01 - 8 slices soft white sandwich bread, crusts removed
02 - 4 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (or Nutella, or fruit jam)

→ Egg Mixture

03 - 2 large eggs
04 - 3 tablespoons milk
05 - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
06 - Pinch of salt

→ Cinnamon Sugar Coating

07 - 1/4 cup granulated sugar
08 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
09 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, for frying

# Directions:

01 - Use a rolling pin to flatten each bread slice gently.
02 - Spread approximately 1/2 tablespoon cream cheese or preferred filling along one edge of each slice, then roll tightly.
03 - Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and salt in a shallow bowl.
04 - In a separate bowl, mix granulated sugar with ground cinnamon.
05 - Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.
06 - Quickly dip each roll-up into the egg mixture, ensuring all sides are coated, then place seam side down in the skillet. Cook in batches, turning every 1 to 2 minutes until golden brown on all sides, adding more butter as needed.
07 - Immediately roll hot roll-ups in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly.
08 - Serve the roll-ups warm for best flavor and texture.

# Additional Tips::

01 -
  • They taste like cinnamon rolls but take a fraction of the time and effort.
  • You can fill them with whatever you have on hand and they still turn out perfectly.
  • Kids think they're dessert, which makes mornings infinitely easier.
02 -
  • Don't soak the roll-ups in the egg mixture or they'll fall apart, just a quick dip on all sides is enough.
  • Keep the heat at medium so the outside crisps without burning before the egg cooks through.
  • Coat them in cinnamon sugar immediately after frying or the coating won't stick as well.
03 -
  • Use day-old bread if you have it because it's easier to roll without tearing.
  • Add a tiny pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon sugar for extra warmth and depth.
  • If you're making a big batch, keep finished roll-ups warm in a low oven while you cook the rest.
